Lisa Peicott earned her undergraduate degree and Master’s  degree in Music  from  UCLA, where her operatic roles included  “Blanche de la Force” in Dialogues of the Carmelites, “Tina” in the west coast premiere of Jonathan Dove’s Flight. and the title role in Handel’s Agrippina.  She was a two-time musical fellow at the American Institute of Musical  Studies in Graz, Austria,  where  she studied  opera and performed  in ret!ltals throughout Europe.

Upon completion of her classical training, Lisa enrolled at the Academy for Jewish Religion California (AJRCA) and began studying to become a  cantor –   an ambition developed during her childhood at Temple Aliyah in Woodland Hills, where, encouraged by Hazzan Mike Stein, she was deeply moved by the power of Jewish music.

During her studies at AJRCA, Lisa served  for three years as the cantorial intern at Sinai Temple under the mentorship of Cantor Marcus  Feldman. In July 2017, she was named Sinai’s hazzan sheni (second cantor).

As a  cantor, Lisa strives to lift congregants to a higher  spiritual   place  through  the power of music and prayer. Most essentially, she encourages temple youth to build  a connection to their faith that will last a  lifetime.

I would like to thank my family-  my husband, Joe, my parents, Scott and Deana, and my brother, David –   for their unending love and support. Thank you to the amazing faculty at AJRCA and the incredible clergy team at Sinai Temple for teaching me what it means to be clergy. Last, but certainly not least, I would like to thank my “Cantorial Fairy Godmother,” Cantor Perryne Anker, who has been a true mentor and a blessing  on this journey.

Upon ordination, Cantor Peicott will be the Assistant Cantor at Wilshire  Boulevard Temple.
