Many thanks to Rabbi Mordecai Finley for speaking to AJR Alumni at the recent AJR student retreat. The event was very well attended, both in person and via Zoom.
Rabbi Finley spoke with much wisdom on the timely topic for clergy about the “Ethics of Speaking Out.” In addition to providing textual support addressing this issue, Rabbi Finley referred to his own experiences and methodology when confronted with events which require our attention.
Two things that struck me in particular (among many insightful teachings), included the reminder to beware of “lashon hara” – of speaking hurtfully about others – and our “ethical obligation” to master the topic at hand in order to “conduct a reasoned moral argument.”
Thank you, Rabbi Finley, for your time and insight.
