“From the beginning of Adar, we increase in joy”…Mordechai instructed the Jews to observe a day of rest on Adar 14/15, which caused them joy instead of sorrow. Yet this is a conundrum. The pur, or lots, were cast daily, from month to month. Why an entire month? And why the simcha? This is different from the normal joy we feel when something good happens.
