Long active in Houston’s Congregation Brith Shalom, she served as the synagogue’s Shabbat service leader, choir president, and cantorial soloist. More recently, she was the student cantor and co-officiant for High Holiday services at Temple Sinai in Buffalo, New York and at the Jewish Information Center of Houston. She has also served as a substitute chaplain for Houston’s Jewish Family Service.

women well past usual age for traditional rite,” detailing Sharon’s work preparing four residents of the Medallion Jewish Retirement Home for their B’not Mitzvah.

Upon ordination, Cantor Colbert will be continuing her Chaplaincy studies as well as her work focused on Jewish experiential
